About Shirley
From the moment she sat at the piano at age six, inspired by her older brother, music has been a joyful and central part of her life. She studied under renowned teachers Dan Morin and Sonia Poon, competed in numerous festivals and competitions, and continued her musical education at the University of Calgary. She has completed her Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Level 10, all accompanying theory requirements, and holds RCM certification in Early Childhood Pedagogy.
As a teacher, Shirley blends professionalism with warmth and a touch of wit. She believes every lesson begins with strong rapport, and she fills each session with laughter, curiosity, and inspiration because “learning music should feel as joyful as it sounds.” She has taught both group classes and private lessons to students of all ages, skill levels, and goals. Whether someone is playing for pure enjoyment or chasing ambitious milestones, Shirley is committed to making the journey rewarding and memorable.
When she isn’t at the piano, Shirley enjoys the company of her husband and two spirited dogs, she’s likes to crochet and is often hunting down Calgary’s best hidden culinary gems (always saving room for dessert).
